Lucky 13 Bike Trip Latest News.
Well we made it. After 68 days of riding and about 3,600 miles logged on the bikes and we rolled into Seaside, Oregon and thus concluding the Lucky 13 bike ride. In addition to racking up some epic stories, we also brought in about $35,000 for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and are sending two campers to Victory Junction on scholarship next year. Overall quite a success I must say….and there’s already a line forming for the next
Welcome to the Lucky 13 Bike Trip. First of all, I guess you want to know who we are. We are a crew of Scouts from Troop 845 in Chapel Hill North Carolina and we’re planning to bike across the United States this summer. We’re following a legacy of Scouts that has done this in the past, 2005, 2007, and 2010, and their epic tales of adventure have inspired us to take off this summer and ride 3700 miles over 10 weeks from coast to coast.
In year’s past the biking crews have raised money for their charity, the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center, and we’re excited to do the same this summer. Just to up the ante a bit, Lineberger and Victory Junction, a local camp for chronically ill children, have teamed up and if we raise $30,000 for Lineberger this summer, they will send two of their pediatric oncology patients to Victory Junction on a scholarship…so the challenge has been set. Follow along with us here these next few months as we get ready to head off, then be sure to check back frequently as we make our way across the US. Our Online Donation page is set up so you can DONATE NOW to our general cause or sponsor a specific rider by clicking here.
You can also track us live along the way with the Find Me Spot GPS that we have along for the ride.
